Diversion Program Coordinator / Restorative Justice Specialist

Location: Bemidji, MN (BASC Office with community work)

Position Summary

Beltrami Area Service Collaborative (BASC) is seeking a motivated, self-directed professional to lead our established Diversion Program as we expand and enhance services. This position plays a key role in supporting youth and families through prevention, case management, and restorative approaches designed to reduce system involvement and improve outcomes.

The Restorative Justice Specialist (RJS) will primarily work out of the BASC office while collaborating with the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office, local schools, families, and community partners. The RJS will support youth demonstrating behavioral concerns, truancy, or early risk factors through individualized services and interventions. Diversion is an alternative to formal court involvement that focuses on helping youth take accountability, build skills, and make positive changes to avoid further system involvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead BASC’s Diversion Program

  • Receive and respond to referrals from the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office

  • Conduct assessments and develop individualized case plans with youth and families

  • Provide ongoing case management and monitor progress toward goals

  • Facilitate the RESCU (Restoration; Education; Skills; Change; and You) curriculum and other skill-building interventions

  • Support youth in improving behavior, decision-making, and school engagement

  • Coordinate and monitor restitution agreements as appropriate

  • Incorporate victim-centered practices and restorative approaches when applicable

  • Work with families to address barriers related to decision-making, behavior, and overall youth success

  • Collaborate with the County Attorney, Probation, school personnel, social services, and other community partners

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in data systems

  • Track outcomes related to behavior and program participation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, psychology, education, or related field, or at least two years of experience working with youth

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

​

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work respectfully and responsively with diverse populations of youth and families

  • Passion for working with youth

  • Must be able to exercise initiative, work independently, meet deadlines, and have strong communication skills

  • Professional judgment and confidentiality

  • Strong facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to work in collaboration with others.

Work Environment

This is a largely independent role requiring strong initiative and time management. The position is primarily based out of the BASC office, with some travel within the community and occasional meetings at local schools to support youth and families.
